Frequently asked questions & Answers

+ Is this going to be a serious art class? I can barely draw stick people.
Not at all! Our classes are laid back and fun. We help and guide along the way in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
+ I used to paint a lot. Is this class only for beginners?
Whether you are at Picasso-level or a first time painter, we will do our best to make sure you have a good time and leave happy with your results.
+ What types of classes do you offer and how much do they cost?
We offer public, private and kids classes. Classes range from $25/canvas for Kids, $35/canvas for most public and private events, and $40-50 for Pet Portraits and Wood Pallet classes.
+ Is there a minimum number of people needed to have a class?
Private events require a minimum of 8 reserved spots within 48 hours of the scheduled event. Public events that have less than 8 reserved spots within 24 hours prior to the event may be cancelled at the discretion of The Dirty Palette, and your choice of a full refund, or a credit toward a future event will be issued.
+ Are there age requirements for your classes?
Due to the level of direction given by the instructor in a standard public event, we recommend participants be 13 years old and up, however we will rely on the parent's or guardian's judgement of the maturity and ability their children. Some events, however, are held at Bars and Restaurants, and we will follow the rules of the establishment. Please don't hesitate to contact us if there is any question. Additionally, we do offer Kids Classes, where the recommended age range is 5 to 12 years old, however all ages are welcome.
+ What should I wear?
We strongly suggest that you wear comfortable, paint friendly clothes! We provide smocks (which are similar to aprons), but you will MOST LIKELY get paint on your hands. Paint can unexpectedly end up on your pants, sleeve or even your shoe, jacket, or purse! So just be mindful and come prepared to possibly GET DIRTY!
+ What time do I need to arrive for class?
Depending on the venue, some people like to arrive early so they can eat prior to the event. However, you are welcome to eat and drink during the event as well! I would suggest at least 15 to 30 minutes prior to start time so you can get situated, find a seat and possibly order a drink or food if desired.
+ What size canvas do you use?
We use a variety of stretched canvas sizes for our classes, which will be listed in the event details. We select the canvas size based on what we feel is most appropriate for each subject. We paint our edges, so you don't have to buy a frame unless you want too. Our children's classes use 11" x 14" stretched canvas, unless otherwise noted.
+ I have reserved a seat but am unable to attend. What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation requests must be received at least 24 hours prior to the start time of the scheduled event, or you will be charged in full, and no refund or credit option will be available. Cancellations requests received at least 24 hours prior to the start of the scheduled event will receive the choice of a full refund, or a credit toward a future event.
+ Will my painting be dry by the end of the night?
In most cases, your painting will be completely dry within minutes of finishing, however there may be occasions where additional time is needed. We will have hairdryers available to help speed the process, if required.
+ I still have a few questions. What's the best way to contact you?
The best way to contact us is through our "Contact Us" form located at the top of this page.
